It's been a while since I've posted here, a lot has been going on! (Having a baby, planning a move to Tehachapi, etc.)

I know a lot of you folks are excellent photographers, and I'm looking at getting my girlfriend a decent DSLR as she wants to get into photography.

She's an entry level photographer, so I'm looking at keeping it under $1000 for everything.cI'd like to get something that takes good video and action shots, as she'll be at my MX races to photograph now and then...

I've been looking at the Nikon D5200 and Canon T3i for starters, but as i know nothing about cameras, I need experienced opinions!
