    Project 120 wagon

We bought this 120 wagon as our newest RKauto project car. Being a 68 its smog exempt in California and since it was surprise for one of our "family" members we had to keep it relatively quiet till Christmas. But since the surprise is over its time we start the new thread.

    Heres the car:

started up again on the newly retermed "project 252".

Started stripping down the T5 short block I have. Here are a few pictures of motor mount conversions and the 960 pan.

960 pan on the T5 girdle

how much it needs to be shortened. Actually works out perfectly.

    once again everything lines up

    how much overhang there is

T5 vs 960 oil pickup. Pretty straight forward once again.

Now, it has to be chopped to bring the sump towards the front of the motor because of this:

is the breather that goes down into the sump, its mate is here

in the block. No real big deal either though.

    Heres an intresting T5 tidbit

the water jacket only goes down 83mm from the deck

and giving support this far down the cylinder

    kind of intresting

OK, 960 motor mounts on a T5. Do able.

DS. The bosses are already there, just 1 nees to be tapped. AC compressor doesn't look like it'd clear, but Im not planning on running it anyways. The breather box also is somewhat in the way, but I think I can clearance the top of the backet and make it work. Option B would be to use the 850 mount seen here just under the starter.

Its WAY back there though. 850's have a mount that attach right on the front of the motor, could weld a bar between frame rails and use that to support the front of the motor. Honestly, the 960 mount should be fine.

    PS mount:

2 bosses are there but untapped, no big deal at all. Hell, they are already "pilot drilled" just a matter of drilling it for the right size. Now, this mount is HUGE but shouldn't have any clearance issues considering how high the turbo actually sits

The 960 water lines will work, but the heater one will have to be shorted 91mm, 5 minutes with a tig welder and that'll be done. Over all, looks pretty straight forward.

    Re: New Project started ;)

Started on the other part of the project right now.

I want to build a stand the car can sit on sans suspension and still have almost full access under the car. Decided on the "top" version with a couple of bolt in spines to connect them when moving the car.

The front one will attach to the body where the rear of the control arm bracket mounts to, the rears will attach at the trailing arm mount.

Gary and I went out and picked up a bunch of tubing and casters.

only had time to cut the 4 legs that have the casters attached to them and drill 1.

oopps ran that impact a bit to hard lol

So all and all, off to a decent start. :-D

We could sticky it, but you bump it with updates anyways, better to see the bump then see it up top and not know if there's an update

just bump it when you got new pics

exactly. Since this one has to sit in the sideyard for a while, the rainy season might make it slow.

maybe one day I'll have one in a magazine ;-)

    Re: New Project started ;)

so I haven't really had alot of time to even look at the car the last couple weeks. The T5R lost an oil line (no real damage, but I haven't had time to fix it and I've had the flu :*( ) so thats been taking up my time.

I DO have a modified oil pan enroute, a TKO trans adapter, coilovers and bump steer spacers coming. I love trading parts among fellow "vendors" :-D

    Re: New Project started ;)

I did get to fiddle a bit this weekend while working on the T5R.

here are some comparison shots between the ME7 intake and 850 TB/head

960 TB damn near works. I could almost tig the original holes shut, and redrill and tap and it'd be fine. But I'll probably end just up just making a 1/4" thick place maybe that will do the same job... not sure yet

bolts up no problem with an early head long as you use the later style PS pump.

I'm really hoping this weekend I can finish making the cart for the car to sit on. The T5R has been eating up my time as of late.
