    E36 M3 Engine Swap

Just sitting at home pondering how difficult this project will be. Thinking maybe a good summer project after i get some cash flow and dont have class. The engine from an E36 M3 is s52? or s54? Anyone have any idea the costs of the engine, I can do the swap with my friends just fine, will my stock slushbox transmission hold up? or do i need to swap that too?

it shouldnt be too hard as long as youre not trying to go from obd2 -> obd1 or vice versa. just like swapping honda engines, but much sexier.

    1995 e36 m3 engine s50 obd1
    1996+ e36 m3 engine s52 obd2
    e46 m3 engine s54 obd2

it would probably be best to swap trannys while youre at it too

S52 is an easy swap, its pretty much just a stroked M52, I just sold a crank for that motor a few months ago. you can do the crank and rod route if you think your up to thee task, or just find a motor complete and swap it in on the weekend.

    Re: E36 M3 Engine Swap

the e46 m3 engine is incredibly expensive, but it would be badass to have an e36 with that motor and smg. =) and links to sites known for this sorta stuff would be great, i know bimmerforums has engine fs forums, but if there is a site to just buy it crate or rebuilt, i would be interested. thanks.

    Re: E36 M3 Engine Swap

so i have been researching the e46 m3 swap. gonna do it before the GTG i have come to realize that with that much power i will need bigger brakes, this should be entertaining. and suggestions or advice for a brake system switch and/or products, or advice for the engine and such would be much appreciated.

    Re: E36 M3 Engine Swap

dont forget with that s54 motor in place youll want to do some chasis strengthening while youre at it, that engine hits high rpms and puts out some godlike torque and im sure you dont want your car to shake apart on a demo run
