Re: Group 5 Motorsport
December: I go in and ask for pricing on a GIAC PC-14 chip for my car and they did not know prices. They said they would email me when they have a discount next month
January: I email and call and ask and they dont know about the discount. I get an email saying they will call GIAC.
Feruary: No response on the price so I email and they dont know and say they will check. They never responded.
Sorry if that is harsh but I think 3 months of waiting and several emails and calls with no response is good enough as an attempt to be fair
I was going to spend $500 on a chip and $250 on injectors and such and got pretty much turned away.
The one time I went in there for a DV valve they were nice but email and calling doesnt get responses.
Sorry to be harch but I think 3 months of emails and calls with no response is good enough as fair.

story of my life.
emailing got no response (minus one where they didn't know prices and said they would get back to me).
calling got me NOTHING, no returned calls, and no return emails or anything. One of my buddies got turned away the same way as you.. and was about to drop $12,000....
walking in is the only way to do business I guess

Agreed. I got some suspension work done a few months ago, was able to discuss a few questions I had through email, and go in the shop and get the work done no problem. Have recently emailed them about an ECU flash and saying I still had questions, no response (been about a week now). Best bet is just walk in, unless you email at the right time I suppose

Ok, obviously Im biased, but I'm biased in a way that I feel I can help give context to your issues. Group 5 is a place where Ive spent close to $30k if not more on mods for my car. Why do I say this? No, its not to be an internet-baller. It's to illustrate that they are a shop I keep going back to, and one that is currently working on a grip of evosport mods for my ride as we speak. What is a better example of the faith I have in a particular company than the fact that ive invested this much money with them to make my car my "dream car".
What you get with Group 5 is a double-edged sword. They are a small company that truly cares about your car and the mods (however big or small) you want to purchase. They put the time and effort into researching whats the best for your particular vehicle, and what stuff is not necessary (i.e., avoiding you unnecessary costs). I'll give you an example. Troy and Co. are currently installing evosport headers (done), throttle bodies and an intercooling package. Troy could easily start on the throttle bodies and get that done first, but has decided to wait on the last piece of the intercooler. why? Because, by installing the throttle body and intercooler package together, he IS GOING TO SAVE ME LABOR COSTS. He could easily just inflate the labor rate but doing all of these interconnected-mods separately, but because Troy treats my car like its his own, he would never do that. I mean, this is the guy who spent 3 hours personally rolling my rear fenders when I got my new HREs, until 1am (how do I know this...I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE WHEN HE DID IT).
But here is the other side of the Group 5-sword. With a small shop, they have limited people to respond to the countless number of calls and emails they get in a week/day. They aren't some Wal-Mart or Target with numerous employees to answer everyone's questions. They are a small shop who relies on word-of-mouth business and thus a company that takes extreme pride in the workmanship they provide (and great workmanship at that). They aren't just trying to pump in and out as many customers as they can, but trying to get jobs done correctly and in a way that meets their extremely high standards and also the customers. This is a company that NEVER does: 1) the bait-n-switch; 2) refuses to stand by their products and services; or 3) takes the customer's money and runs. Group 5 is as honest as can be, and yeah, maybe they do get swamped (and believe me, I know from firsthand experience), but that's the sign of a company that's in demand by customers. Would you rather give your money to a company that has virtually no clientele and is never busy?
So cut them a little slack, and just pop in and talk to Troy, Albert, Jeff etc. about what you want done on your ride. That's always been my method, and I havent been disappointed once!

Good to know! Thanks for the post! I was very happy with their service when they worked on my Audi. They've always been at the top of my list, and they're the closest.

I did go and talk to them and they said they will contact me through email. Never did so I called and they said they would email me. Never did. So I live in Escondido. I drove down twice to talk to them about the ECU and they said they will let me know once they get more details, never did. I went in a month later for a DV and asked them and they said sorry and they will let me know, What do you know. Never did. That is why i gave up. I cut them alot of slack in my opinion.

Re: Group 5 Motorsport
So I got my car back after 3 weeks being worked on and waiting for incoming parts. Today, my car gets finished. I pick it up, it sounds fucking amazing, drives like a dream. I literally have to change my underwear!!
10 minutes into my drive home tonight, my traction control starts fucking up, my car starts weaving, and I smell burning rubber. I pull to the side of the 805 south at about 630pm, and am just in shock. My right rear passenger tire is completely shredded. I first call Troy, then AAA. After Troy calls me back, says "Cancel the tow truck, me and Eugene are coming and Eugene has a spare tire." Eugene is the dude with the gangster E55 that just got his fenders rolled at Group 5. They, and then met up by Lon aka Bugzy, roll up to save the day.
The tire gets removed, and a fucking nail shredded my tire. A fucking nail!!! After waiting 3 weeks for my car, 10 minutes into my drive home, bam!
I dont know how many shop owners would, on their Friday night, hustle to help get me a spare (E55s dont come with a spare), pull over on a crazy Southern California freeway to help change my tire and get me back on the road (actually back to the shop where its going to sit for the new tire). All I can say is that once again, I have been proven right, time after time after time, on why my decision to bring my ride to Group 5 was a correct one.
Big shouts to Lon and Eugene for being gangsters about helping me out. Dim sum on me yall!!! And by me, I mean, Im going to steal Ling's credit card!

Yeah..kinda a bummer that we went through employees during the time you were asking for quotes and it slipped through the cracks..add to that GIAC did not reckognize your ECU #.
Our apologies. Unfortunately this industry is sooooo competitive that I can not have 10 employees sitting here answering questions...kinda a hard balance between have enough employees and not so many that it raises the prices we have to charge to our customers.

I always tried my best to help you as much as possible and hooked it up as well...the problem for me is that everyone thinks they need to speak to me and unfortunately there is one of me and too many customers...that is why I surround myself with good employees that can assist everyone. My apologies that they or I did not get back to you. That sucks

I normally would go through someone else, but Albert said I had to go through you for the GT1 stuff. It was an emergency situation thats over now (luckily there is like 1 other shop with a GT1), but it was not a fun day haha.

Oh yeah...I remember I think..was it a fuel pump issue?
If so I had to depend on someone that had the GT1 that will remain un-named and it was like pulling teeth to get him to call back and by the time I finally got in touch with him it was too late. My apologies
Hope it all worked out well in the end. Did not mean to leave ya hangin in any way.
