    Re: SCE wall of shame

My dad has an industrial recycling business. Basically he's just like all the other dumpster services, but instead of just bringing everything to the dump, he sorts all the material and brings them to different places instead of just straight to the dump. He's got special dump trucks that use a European hoist system.

He is also very well rounded when it comes to maintenance and working on engines, but he's old school. He does all his own maintenance on the heavy diesel equipment at his work.

I am perfectly confident in my driving skills, which I know I have, and I am comfortable going at a fast pace. I also know where to draw the line. I don't go on canyon runs or cruises because of guys like HIM who CAN'T handle their cars and I don't want to get run into, rear ended, run off the road by someone trying to pass me. I have probably been on more driving and canyon runs then you can think and have driven cars that were intended to do such things and have seen FAR to many incidents like this, don't care anymore. If I want to run my car above 8/10ths, I will buy a track day for less then a ticket and my insurance deductible. Someday after you see enough people wreck, bicyclists and joggers hit, you will think the same. Some people on here really do know how to drive, and we enjoy watching and hearing about the ones that don't.

On the track, you won't be held negligent, lose your license, be ticketed, be far from emergency services or have such a higher risk of hurting someone else. Being young and dumb for a while I can tell you, keep it on the track.

    Re: SCE wall of shame

Well I had that car for 4 years. I was mostly a conservative driver and for most of the car's life, it was slow. I had invested a lot (a lot by my standards) into the car over the passed 2 years. I had chances to really let the car loose from a stop light just to see the acceleration, but I had no experience driving through the twisties. The day before, I had gone to my first auto-x and after viewing the videos and speaking with David, I felt that I didn't get to drive the car to its potential with the work that has been done to it over the passed 2 years. It was probably not the best idea to try to push the car on the twisties, without truly having found the limits of the car. I felt that I had put the car up to its limits at that auto-x, but after watching the videos and talking to David, I was convinced the car could handle more. I made the mistake the day before. I tried to drive through the 60 on my way home at over 100 mph, but because of traffic, I was unable to do so. If there was no traffic that day, I would've probably wrecked on the 60 at over 100mph and most of you wouldn't have known it had happened yet. It was all a mixture of over confidence and stupidity, but it's something that I'll remember forever. I've yet to repeat a major mistake twice... but I've still got a long road ahead of me...

As long as you have learned from it, that's worth it, an expensive lesson, but it could be valuable. Your car is totaled, but you are probably sore, but other then that, no serious injuries to you or anyone else. The car did its job in keeping you safe, live and learn. Its replaceable, you not so much.

hey....you know better now. Experience is a big thing....and a couple track days will NOT make you a pro........it's YEARS.

Don't worry, be happy. You are alive and well.

Oh well. If he wasn't going to do anything shady, he would have nothing to worry about. The insurance adjuster isn't stupid, when they see a car that looks like its been driven over a pile of rocks, with a destroyed motor and trans, and the airbags blown off sitting on unbent wheels and unbent struts, they can put two and two together.

    True.
And if you get hurt, an ambulance is right there at the track. If you run with NASA in Socal, we have an ER Dr. on site and he also races. When I rolled my race car 3 years ago (today!) he was the first one there.

Plus check with your insurance. if you are doing a driving school or HPDE, they will cover track damage if it happens. Its not RACING, its considered a school format therefore you can be covered. I know someone who rolled his EVO and got it fixed via his insurance.
