    New grips for my 1911

I got sick of my wraparound rubber grips so I installed a set of Ajax Silverwood grips with the Colt logo. MMMMMM now it looks better, feels better too.

I bought a SIG to have as my indestructible, reliable go to gun, but I just can't bring myself to not have this thing cocked and locked in the nightstand. Its accurate much safer to have loaded, and the knockdown power of the .45 loaded with Hydra Shoks can't be beat. Its accuracy is on par with my buddies Kimbers and Wilson Combats. A match pistol she ain't but within 25 yards, it will work.

I hear the army is dropping the Beretta M9 and returning to .45ACP due to to many close call with insurgents needing to be filled with 9mm to go down.

the way it should be...... what kinda stopping power does the M9 have over a .45acp anyway ? Then again if it came to home/self defense ..... it wouldnt matter what i got cocked n locked i can place my rounds where i need them placed to protect myself just as good with a .45 as i can with a .22 ! I am using the sig p239 in my avatar pic. good gun

My SIG is a 2022 in 40 S&W and is a damn fine weapon. If I had to take one of them with me to survive in the outdoors, it would be the SIG. It has no fear of dirt or water. The 1911 is much more finicky with many more parts.

Re: New grips for my 1911

I've always wanted a 1911 but a decent one can get pretty expensive. Plus, I've always heard they're a b*tch to maintain. IDK, just what i heard. They do shoot grrrrrreat tho.

Ended up just getting an HK (.40) and a Baby Eagle (9mm).

BTW, nice firearm, are the wood grips comfortable? Or did you get them for looks? I LOVE my rubber grips.

Re: New grips for my 1911

The grips feel great. I have large hands so I have to have large grips anyway. I can't get away with any sort of compact frame. I got them since wood grips are more traditional and IMO look better. Feel and control are fine with them. I have shot plenty of 1911's with wood and rubber grips, its personal preference.

The 1911 is an older design, but a damn good one. Basic cleaning and tear down is cake. There are more parts compared to say a Glock which has 35 parts, four of which are in the magazine. My understanding is the 1911 was designed so a G.I. in the field can perform most repairs in a mud hole and it will still fire. The only finicky thing with mine, and most 1911's that aren't junk is it doesn't like shit reloads. It wont extract or feed in some cases, but I never have a single problem with Winchester white box 230 grain ball.

[quote=mike;419276]HA, I love my SIG. The ones I don't like are Glocks.[/quoI actually always hated them because they were always portraid as a ghetto gun until I went to the range and rented a glock 21. I ended up buying one the same week.

x2...Not a big fan of glocks or polymer guns. I like the weight/feel of an all metal gun. I mean, I can see why law enforcement/border patrol carry polymers. They have to carry it all day and an all metal gun can get heavy.
