    My 1958 Bus

Here is my lowered 58 Single Cab.

I have had this for about 9 years or so now. The only thing I have done to it is paint it, lower, and swapped out the trans to a straight axle.

I plan on repainting it to Dove Blue and putting some bus 15" stock wheels on it. I want to restore it to the stock look but slammed.

Powered by a 1600cc SP engine. Nothing special.

Here is the look I am going for...

This is how she looks now...

    Re: My 1958 Bus

Oh yeah! There was an OEM Salmon color they used for a while and I always liked that on the single cabs myself. Though the blue is cool for an OEM look and maybe a little dress up with an old school looking logo'd look.

I thought about putting some logos on it but haven't decided on what yet.

Thanks. I enjoyed the two weeks I had to drive it to work. Nothing like cruising the SC 48 miles one way in the nice beautiful sunny So Cal days.

I know they only weigh ≈500 lbs. But how does that do hauling a quad around?

    Re: My 1958 Bus

I would love to get a crew cab so I can haul the family around.

It does good hauling the quad around. I have only hauled it from Pomona to Oceanside when I first got the quad. Then one day I didn't have enough time to take it out of the back so I took the quad to work. When I brought it home and I went up that hill between Temecula and Fallbrook where that stupid check point is, I climbed the hill supposedly at 70mph. I say supposedly since my speedo doesn't work and my brother-in-law was behind me in his Chevy.

I helped a pal put a type 4 conversion in an old split window panel panel bus last year. The money involved in doing an upright type-4 correctly isn't very cost effective as far the bang for the buck. For the same money you can build a super nice type 1 with top of the line goodies. Plus parts availability is much better for type-1 stuff if you travel a lot with it and it breaks down with an actual engine problem (The van's owner called to tell me this revelation when camping an extra week in the boonies of Canada while waiting for parts for the type 4)

Type 4 upright conversions are cool for weekend cruisers, racers, and trailer queen "look at me" show cars though. They sure make a hell of a "torquer" engine for hot rod bugs.
