    Please help asap!!

ok so my 02 1.8t gti has a forge bov that the previouse owner instaled, it is installed on th inlet rubber pipe not the metal turbo pipe and somhow it all works fairly well?! but has horrible compressor surge cause it sounds like a flutter witch i thought was supposed to do but now relize is very wrong haha, i figured this out so i switched it back to the right way and the car runs horible, it idles fine but wen i rev the engine it goes into limp mode and sounds very low pitched like its bogging, wat could i be doin wrong? and how did the run properly if the bov hole was pluged and the bov was right after the air filter? so any opinion would be great cause i have work ealy in the morning!

Post up a picture of the forge you have. Is it an actual BOV or is it a DV that was hooked up to act like a blow off. You really need to hook the car up to recirculate and not blow off air.

If you need to know what it should look like...

You should have the dv installed in your inlet hose. From there, it should have another hose that goes to the upper boost pipe by the firewall. Then there is a vacuum line that controls it.

The first video is how the car came when i bought it, and it is a Forge BOV not DV

    100.flv video by ep99x - Photobucket

and the second video is how other dubers on youtube have it set up so im guessing the right way ha

    093.flv video by ep99x - Photobucket

that seems right wen idleing and under 5lbs of boost, but once i start driving the car pops and bogs( witch i think is limp mode but not positive) then the car completly dies

    This is how it works:

your car sucks in air...the air is metered by the maf sensor, so if somewhere between the maf sensor and the combustion chamber some of that metered air is lost...the car's ecu won't know it.

The ecu throws in fuel based on the amount of air metered, but in some cases (bov), some of that air is lost before it gets to the combustion chamber. As a consequence, the car runs rich...because it's injecting a specified amount of fuel due to the x amount of air metered by the maf, but in reality, your ending up with something less than that x amount.

I would get someone with vagcom to check your long term fuel trims..this will show if you are running rich and if the ecu is compensating.

also, unplug the maf. If the car runs better, then the bov is letting air out at the wrong times.

This happens sometimes...as the only bov that forge makes that stays closed at idle is the dual piston 004.

The way the original owner had it setup worked because it was essentially a stock setup, except with no way of diverting the compressed air. I would never have bought a car from someone as mechanically inept as that dude though...

also, an easy fix would be to just go back to a diverter valve.

If you absolutely MUST make the bov work, you can mess around with stiffer spring pressures on the bov, subtract fueling on decreasing load via unisettings, go with a mafless file, etc...but it isn't simple, set it and forget it stuff. Requires research and knowing what you're doing.

I think it's cause you have a BOV Our cars are made for DV's. our engines need the recirculation. I'd sell that forge BOV and get a DV ASAP

Wow! You're right about the setup being totally wrong on your car.

I would find a stock DV, even just to borrow, to put on the car and then diagnose the issue you are having after everything is plumbed properly. If the BOV was installed like that, who knows what else might be wrong. It might just be that the ECU adapted to the weird setup and needs to be reset. After you get the limp issue squared away, you can go back and set the BOV up properly.

You've probably already heard this but a BOV is not the best thing for these cars. You might want to sell it to someone that likes the noise and get yourself a normal DV. If you do like the BOV, be forewarned that you will run at least a little rich and some people do throw codes with them.

    well said ncttrnl.

Plus you can get some awesome sounding and loud Diverter valves that sound just like a blow off. Trust me, people will defiantly turn head even when they here the DV.

Sell the BOV and DV ftw
