mkIV surging issues / shifting issues

on my 01 aww 1.8t I have giac X+ and have determined I have surging issues mid range. the car from say 3 to 4k rpm's is bouncing from 21 to 17 to 21 psi in the higher gears. I got a new n75 valve today, have a new mass air flow sensor, switched out my forge 006 to a 710n, check for vaccum leaks with some carb cleaner, check for codes. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Also, on my 5 speed. No matter how I adjust it it just still wants to stick in gears/pop out now and just acts up. What are the best ways to really go through the shifter / replace it?

Well the Locking, popping out of gear can be solved with a stiffer set of bushings in your Dog bone mount on the bottom of the engine/transmission assembly. The surging may be your Spark plugs improperly gapped or if your using BKR6E's switch to the BKR7E's which are a temp colder plug and designed for chipped cars. If not then I'd say its just the nature of a chipped car. Is the N75 Valve a Race version or is it a stock configured unit? That may be a possibility. Let us know how everything goes.

Run BKR7E's gapped at .028 your going to have either gap them yourself or I believe ECS tuning sells a pre gapped set. I would buy a feeler gauge anyway for like $5 and check the gap when you receive them I had to adjust all of mine a tad even though they were a pprently pre gapped at .028

You can play the N75 game, most people have success with the "J" valve, ecstunings "race" valve is just an "H" rebranded. All your changing is the delay in the pluses of the N75 valve to control the wastegate. You can always try an EBC like the profec B spec II

Do you have a silicone TIP?

I ask because Surging is caused when the turbo can't intake enough air for the amount of boost it's producing and the stock TIP is know to pancake at the higher boost levels.

All my surging issues went away when I took off my stock cut up air box and clamped a 3inch flowstack to the maf if that helps ya

All of the BKR7E's I got were gapped to .38 and I agree with the pregapped versions and I always check the gap anyways since I'm an old Small block Chevy guy and gap is vital to the performance anyways. I still have surging even with my APR TIP. It comes and goes but I have Revo software and I am pretty sure its because of that crap ecu file.

I never responded lol. I am still dealing with the surging. I have had a abd turbo inlet pipe since 2003 probably. I do have the BR7's in. Everything is in line with what you guys have mentioned. I have the abd cold air intake with the summer extension on as well. Its definitely getting air lol. I have the silicon intake hose/tip replacement coming in and I am probably going to try an n75 race valve next as well as call and find out if their ever were any updates past when I got my x+ software in 2005.

Everyone always says to gap them properly. I would think u could vag your car and look at soft codes. If you have misfires it could be gapping. If no misfires I would think you would be fine.

Well first off... never trust what the plugs are gapped to because its never accurate, they get bounced around, bumped, dropped all the time so you need to check the gap. running a .028 will give you a more consistent burn and the coil packs on our cars are more then capable of jumping the gap.

so basically i have been lucky so far and that my next batch could possibly be all random gaps which could possibly give me shitty performance?

Yes you have been lucky... I have purchased a set that were .010 off from one another.
