Same goes for multivitamins...
This is very true, especially when one is trying to take in 200-230g of protein per day. I struggle to hit 200 even after 2 protein shakes a day. Also trying to hit 250-270g of quality carbs a day. Hitting that is easy, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, etc. But trying to get to a certain calorie goal per day and trying to balance carb and protein intake is difficult, especially when most of us don't have much time to prepare our meals.

That being said for the past month I've been taking EAS Myoplex RTD's, EAS Pro Science Reload(creatine, l-glutamine, hmb, taurine blend), EAS Pro Science CLA. Decided to do the EAS Body For Life Challenge a month ago(which explains the brand of supplements I've been taking), mainly just to keep me on track and set goals for myself.

    Here's my daily supplement routine:

    Calcium + D3 1200mg
    Naturemade Stress B-Complex
Pe Min Kan Wan (Chinese herbs for allergies)
    Centrum Multivitamin
    Gluocosamine + Chondroiton + MSM 1500mg
    100% Tahitian Noni Juice 2oz

And soon, Nutribiotic Vegan RIce Protein!!!

I'm mostly a regular drug store kind of a gal... Plus balanced diet; very few complex carbs, mostly veg and protein, no dairy. I've been trying to drop 25 lbs since February and I'm down 16, 9 to go... Going from size 10 to 4. Then keep it off until at least March/April 2012 for my second wedding and reception in Scotland. I do some sort of exercise 6 days a week; off day generally consists of acupuncture, massage, or spa treatments.

    June Workout Schedule
Monday: Bowling (light cardio, 190 calories burned)
Tuesday: Softball (light cardio, 251 calories burned)
Wednesday: Interval cardio 20 minutes or Zumba 60 minutes (heavy cardio, 217 to 411 calories burned)
Thursday: Strength Training with Personal Trainer (pyramid sets, 314 to 477 calories burned)
    Friday: OFF
Saturday: Interval cardio 20 minutes or Trail Run 90 minutes (heavy cardio, 217 to 472 calories burned)

A good article on protein intake.

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/maki1.htm

Seems to be on par with all other info I find.

There's also a calculator at the bottom where you can input your lean body weight (actual weight minus body fat weight) and gives you recommendations on how much protein you should be taking. RDA recommendations are for those who are inactive, average is for those who exercise regularly, and the last is for those involved in intense physical strength training.

Wow... I didn't read the whole article, but the three calculations came out for me:

102 RDA suggestion (I try for 100-130, as stated above)
    154
    230

I wish it controlled for gender. I think men and women bodies have different processes for food and protein. I cannot imagine 230 g of protein!!! I only weigh 128 lbs and eat 1335 cals a day!!!

haha yeah that 230 is for intense strength training, which I'll assume you're not doing.

    What's the best one?
My room mate drinks that crap every day and works out but isn't
really buff. He has 3 different tubs.

Not real impressive stuff to me.

bodybuilding isnt easy, takes dedication. its not just how much you train or how much protein you take. its also a diet, timing, rest, often routine changes....

there isnt really a best protein, people get different results with diferent brands.

Re: Anyone take protein or other supplements??

I was on this diet www.idealprotein.com and it helped me drop 35lbs in little over 2 months. Basically you eat 4 of their soy based protein packs a day and a restrictive diet of food. Was never hungry and felt great....

Depends on your goals and stuff too... I'm not trying to be a body builder, I'm trying to fuel my radical workouts and make them last longer!

brands have different stuff in it. Like "thermobuilding mega roids" or "ultra metafast antidote"
Crap like that. There has to be a best one that has some crazy shit in it.

I flip through bodybuilding mags (that are 90% ads btw) and all these different powders
claim to have all these good hormones and stuff to make your body be superhuman.

If it was just protein you want just eat some steaks.

That's the problem, I can't eat enough protein in a day. So I supplement.

Re: Anyone take protein or other supplements??

Every manufacturer has their own "blends" which I don't really buy into too much. As long as its a reputable brand, I'm sure they use all the right quality ingredients. Don't really think one blend is better than the other, who knows they can be the same exact blend between different companies but since they don't reveal that info you'll never know.

Protein, HMB, L-Glutamine, Creatine and CLA tend to be the most popular supplements athletes take, with the latter two not usually being in protein shakes.

Keep in mind there's different types of protein too. Casein, Soy, Egg, Whey Proteins. And even with whey protein there are Concentrates and Isolates, depending on how the protein is broken down. Hydrolyzed Whey Isolate is known to be the quickest absorbing protein, best used for pre/post workouts. Concentrates are a bit slower to be absorbed, then Soy and Egg, and Casein is the slowest absorbing protein. Casein is best taken at night or on days you don't do any strength training since it is absorbed slowly. Casein is said to be better for muscle maintenance vs Hydrolyzed Whey on the opposite side of the spectrum when used pre/post workout is great for bulking.

As far as eating more steak for protein, I don't think I can eat that much solid food and still eat healthy just to get the right amount of protein.

Everyone's body is different. And although you and I may work out the same exact way and eat the same stuff and drink the same powders, you may possess a certain gene that allows you to be "buffer" than I am. Over time, through experience, you learn what work out routines, diets, and supplements work best for your body. I wish it was as easy as "I used x and y and it worked, and it will work for you."
