    Martial arts?

Never thought i'd post in this section lol...

Anywho, I became a certified Kukkiwon 1st dan Black Belt when I was 11 at the Tiger Hong Black Belt TKD Studio in Chula Vista back in 1998 (or 99?).

(I don't know how I am a certified 1st dan and 1st poom since I was under 15... But okay)

After that... I slacked off and never thought about it again... Ever.

As of the past few months i've actually put serious thought into it...

Around last month, I tried to do a couple pushups and damn... I couldn't really even do a couple real good pushups. I tried the 100 pushup program and swayed away from it and went my own route. I currently can do about 80 good pushups and it's motivated me enough that I can infact get fit. lol.

I walked into the Elite Tae Kwon Do Academy today near my apartment and needless to say... They need more help.

I've decided to push aside the tiny bit of money i've saved up for a couple Corrado parts and tomorrow i'm enrolling and going back into Tae Kwon Do.

    Quite excited honestly! Woo!

Anyone else here do martial arts?

    Re: Martial arts?

Good for you. I have been meaning to do similar, but not with my last style I took. I took several years of boxing, kick boxing, wrestling and lastly five animal, five family Kung Fu from about 10 to my early-mid 20's. I used to run and hit the weights everyday. Welcome to getting old. Now I have a job, a beer gut, and a bunch of other stuff that eats up my hobbies allotted time. Next I am going to take Krav Maga which there is a training place that is certified close to my work.

You will get whipped back into shape pretty quick, they are hard on you when you take a break and then come back. I use to have to do push ups on my finger tips. My sifu could do one handed crab push ups and kick over my head and i'm 6'4" and he was in his 60's!

When you mean 80 push ups you mean in a row with no pauses?
    I can about 20 if I'm lucky. :P

Nah, 17-20 in a row... 80 total in reps of 10 or 15. Not much, but I remember struggling with just 1 at the beginning of the month.

    Re: Martial arts?

I've practiced in mixed disciplines off and on for the last 6 years or so. Took TKD when I was in middle school, got my yellow/white belt and never took a class since. I did some amateur boxing in High School, but didn't take long before I couldn't afford the gym membership.

I got in the the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP), and am fairly well versed in that (which is mostly compromised of judu, kick-boxing, and jiu-jitsu). I have had the luck of meeting and getting unofficial training in muy-thai and BJJ. My most recent endeavors included taking Shorin-Ryu Karate twice a week until school got in the way of the class times (I earned my yellow belt). Now I finally signed up for official Brazilian JJ, and have been going for almost 2 weeks now. The BJJ Professor recently got his black belt, is from Brazil, and has fought at Worlds a few times. His BJJ lineage comes from the Carlson Gracie camp (Team Revolution, NOT Gracie-Barra).

I think I will eventually work on some Aikido; which is a little more practical in a military application.

Wow cool, lots more martial arts backgrounds than I expected!

I would love to try Muay Thai but I don't know of a true MT studio in the Southern Inland Empire area...

Also, as of today... It's official!

i've been to that one it's pretty cool, the only thing is that there are a few really good people there and a lot of really shitty people there. The first time my friend and i took a class it was at this place and we whooped on people that were supposed green belts and higher during sparring matches

    Re: Martial arts?

I went on vacation for two weeks. Road trip up and down the coast (portland, OR and back). Got back Monday, found out Tuesday I was competing at Grappling X on Saturday (21st).

I lost in the finals (White belt, cruiserweight) and took 2nd place. Two weeks of beer drinking when not driving, countless hours of driving, candy, ice cream and junk food completely killed any cardio I did have. I did not have the energy to fight.

Well, my BJJ record so far: 1st place at Carlson Gracie Invitation on July 31st. 2nd Place at Grappling X in La Jolla on Aug 21st.

Next event, IBJJF Nationals in Long Beach, CA on Sept. 25th.

    That sux man.
I think that getting raged out (violently angry) would of helped you. The way you wrote
it sounds like you gave up before you started. :P

Maybe have your dad call or somehow to tell you how worthless you are or something like that.

    Re: Martial arts?

Been training BJJ for about 6 years now. Got my purple back in December and still don't feel like a purple. First started training at GB Temecula. Great school. I have nothing bad to say about them. If you're in the Temecula area and looking for a place to train check it out. They have MT and BJJ. temeculajiujitsu.com

I now train in Mammoth as an affiliate of Aloisio Silva. Another really great teacher who's been really good to me. aloisiosilvabjj.com

Competed in my first purple belt comp last weekend and got handed in all three fights. Lost one by points and the other to by sub. Oh well, you have to lose to win.
