Fraudulent card transactions... Report to police too?

Soo. I woke up to a voicemail from Navy Federal saying I had some charges that they wanted to verify.

They cleared out my broke ass and made me more brokestatus, $800 gone.

I already contacted my bank and they closed the card. I have to wait for the transactions to clear before I can file for a fraudulent claim.

Now... On the claim it says if I filed a police report which makes me wonder if I should?

Typically the police report is if you were robbed or burglarized of the card. Fraudulent charges should be handled just by the bank/credit company without the need for a police report.

This is the reason I insisted that my bank reissue me an ATM card instead of the default debit card, which allows direct withdrawal from a bank account anywhere VISA or MC is accepted. It's a lot easier to deal with fraudulent credit card transactions since it's credit and you haven't actually spent any money. The ease in which a debit card can drain a bank account of actual funds is disturbing to me.

Yeah it sucks... It wasn't done to my credit card. Checking account, we're guessing through my check card.

No need to unless requested by the persons working on your claim at the bank. Most times they just get the money back, or write it off, depending on the type of transaction..

I had something like this happen to me about 2 monbths ago .....they took 3 grand out of my checking account before my bank stopped it! ...I thankfully got everything back but Im wondering how in the hell they got a hold of my ATM card and pulled money out of my account when I had my car on me the hole time....at least Chase didnt give me the run around with it and got me my money credited within about 5 business days

They either skimmed it or got it from an online source.

Another reason to keep only a minimum amount in a debit accessible account.
