Vista CD
Anyone have this available? My cuz'n has an acer with an illegal copy of Win7, but now wants to revert back to vista so she can upgrade to an official copy of win7.
She tried obtaining a recovery disc from Acer, but found out the laptop her uncle gave her came from thailand. She contacted that division in thailand, but doesn't provide recovery disc outside the country.
What other options available? Or should she clean the drive and install a full version instead. Thing is, she's tight on funds right now...so trying to find the cheapest route for her.

Re: Vista CD
Is it locking itself because it's an illegal copy?
There is an "update" you should not download, just look for it and click hide.
It'll never come up again.
It because that's what validates the copy.
KB971033. Google it.
Do a fresh instal and don't download that 1 update and you should still be able to update everything else.

Re: Vista CD
If it's a laptop and still has the factory hard drive, it's likely that the "recovery" disc is actually on a separate partition. Read up on how to recover the laptop from that partition.

Re: Vista CD
There was some law that passed that says Microsoft was not allowed to require you to register. That being said, I've tried doing that and at one point you lose some features of Win7 (ie. background is solid black, constant pop ups to remind you to register) So it becomes very annoying to use.
Is it Win7 professional? If so I can probably give you one of my keys. Our computers come images with XP, but they all have Win7 keys on them HAHA!!

Re: Vista CD
I would NOT go back to Windows Vista..... Go buy a copy of Win7 Pro OEM for 130 bucks if you have to, just dont waste your time on Vista. I have a friend at MS and they were selling copies of Vista at the MS store @ HQ for $5 a copy.... that should tell you something. LOL

Re: Vista CD
DO NOT DOWNLOAD UPDATE
KB971033. That's what's giving you all the pop ups and stuff like that.
I'm running win7 ultimate x64 like I bought it, just hide and don't download KB971033
Do a fresh instal and don't download that 1 update and you should still be able to update everything else.
