Re: New to Euro
Welcome! I've had many a MK3 Jetta, and the one I liked the most was my rough looking 2.0. So much can be done to make them sit nice, handle great and even be mildly un-slow, lol. Looks like a clean find.
So... What's the plans?
I drive crap. Expensive crap...

Re: New to Euro
damn feelin the love right away! thanx everyone!
@agent orange: as far as everything goes. im tryna find suspension. and prolly go with function forms type 1's but still dunno.. again ive been in the honda game for a cool minute i have no idea whats good for these german cars. but i have wheels ready to slap on.. just dunno what kinda suspension.
i have 16x8 +0 XXR 513 from my last car. willing to trade for some equip 01's + cash on my end for 15's
again i have a lot to learn whats a good offset for the jetta. something that'll fit flush with the wheel and the fender. trying to NOT have a super duper poke.
and imma stick to the 2.slow for a bit. maybe after 1.8t swap?
help me out if its not too much to ask.. =] what would be a good route to take?
and thats a hilarious gif @joshblues21 lol

Re: New to Euro
you can always have a decent amount of fun with an 8v. I personally love them because they don't friggin die. I ran my old 8v in my car into the ground and then started digging, and that thing ran until there was no clutch left to move the car, Still have the engine, easy to work with, semi-simple. And IIRC MkIII's run on DIGI II or something? I love 8v's. Headers, Intake, maybe a nice cam, and you have yourself a peppy little Jetta to tool around in.

Imma be running this 8v for a cool minute. Just need a reliable car for now. After a while maybe clutch lighten flywheel and pressure plate! And some basic bolt ons. But in the Long run. I wanna boost again

How lowz do you want? I personally like H&R race springs and bilstein sport shocks on mk3. Its low, stiff, simple, lifetime warranty, and maintenece free. I don't like coilovers for DD.... just me...

Re: New to Euro
i wanna slam slam this mk3.. and only reason y i want coilovers is so i can adjust everything. ride height and damper. id want a more of a comfortable ride being slammed... but springs and sport shocks would do justice? i might check that out =] thanks for the heads up josh! and thank you for the help brotha!

Re: New to Euro
Can't go wrong with a good 8v. There's a lot to be said for the extreme reliability, simplicity, and the things you can do to them. A nice set of coils will give the ride you want, but nice and good don't mean cheap. But you bought a VW, so get used to it, lol

Re: New to Euro
Enjoy! i sure miss my old 2.0L Golf...
Some suggestions:
- Drop a K&N filter in the airbox and 'swiss cheese' the fender side
- get a magnaflow exhaust or similar
- Lots of coilover options. B+G are my suggestion, but go with what you're comfortable with
- look into a Euro VR6 lip + Euro E-code headlights + GLX tail lights to help clean up the stock looks (all can be had for under $500 total)
then keep up on the maintenance and you're good! Replace belts and hoses, flush fluids, etc. There's lots of OEM upgrades you can do (VR6 brakes, leather seats, etc) just like a Honda, so you don't have to spend a lot of money to get some nice upgrades.
My signature was so old it broke all the rules :drama:

Re: New to Euro
Suspension:
Springs and Struts/Shocks = H&R (slightly less low, more firm) or Eibach Sportlines (more low, and less firm/softer feel) for Springs and Bilstein Struts/Shocks all the way.
or
Coiloverovers = Your preference (I swear by H&R products, they're top of the line)
Front Lip = VR6 Lip (Careful though, because the aftermarket ones on Ebay, for like 60ish bucks, don't flex much -- I went through 3 of these xD)
Headlights = Ecodes for sure or get the dual chamber MK3 GTI headlights if you want to do a front end swap and make it a Getta (Your preference though)
Tail Lights = GLX Tinted Tails like Slapshotnerd recommended -- it will look much cleaner (My preference is the Euro Clear tail lights which are clear Red and clear White if you can find them)
Exhaust = I would go with Borla but make sure you don't just slap on a muffler and you get a full cat back system or it might sound farty since it's a 2.0L 8v engine.
Wheels = BBS or Borbet are always a slick choice.
Front End swaps on MK3's are quite simple because all you need to do is Core Support/Headlights/Grille/Hood (Unless the GTI headlights fit in the Core Support, but I don't think they do).
In all honesty, make sure you grab some nice springs and shocks/struts because all springs are rather inexpensive and if you skimp out on buying some nice ones, you'll definitely feel the difference and may be greatly disappointed.
Feel free to PM me anything related to Mk3's. My first car was a OBDI 95 VW Golf "City" 2.0L 8v and it was my baby. I love them and we wish you good luck on your future modding!

They do fit. I've done front end swaps. Had 6 different MK3's lol. All you need is hood and headlights and grill
