The Valentine One is still ranked #1 according to the latest independent unbiased radar detector test.

There are big problems with the new Escort 9500i and the majority of people are returning them because of less range than the Valentine One and the 8500X50.

They are locking out signals from door openers and the 9500i is not alerting to cops that shoot radar in that area. Owners of the 9500i are also complaining that signals that they lock out are not staying locked out from the day before. They also say that their Sirius/XM radio is cutting out because of the 9500i and its GPS function.

Radartest.com is run by a guy named Craig Peterson who works for Bel and Escort so he bashes the V1 every chance he gets and promotes Bel and Escort products. He got busted trying to sabotage the Guysoflidar.com 2007 radar detector test and he will probably have to part with a couple thousand dollars on top of the $1000 radar gun that he hid under camouflauge on top of a mountain to throw off the testing.

There was a write-up in a recent Autoweek about some deal where speeders and cops get together and try out their equipment on neutral ground. It then got into how each one performed, pros, cons etc.

I've got an Escort Passport 8500 X50 in my X5. I paid $250 shipped for mine back in August of this year and it has already paid itself off. It might not be as straight forward as pointing out your threats like the V1, but it still gets the job done well.

I have a Passport 8500 x50 in my wife's Pathfinder and a Passport SR7 with ZR3 shifters (stealth mounted laser shifters) on my M3 - both seem to do the job very well.

I had a V1 in my last car and loved it. It more than paid for itself with saving my ass from cops.

You'll love the 8500. My wife and I just drove from SD back to Texas with hers and it saved us several times.

If you want it new, you can only really get it from Valentine...otherwise you're paying more from a re-seller, which aren't authorised...

Valentine 1 all the way. Its pricey but worth every penny.

And yeah, you can only get them brand new from Valentine.

    Re: Prefered Radar Detector

The Passport 9500 is superior to the V1 in detection, as well as having the GPS truelock. Once you lock all the falses out on your regular commute, if the thing goes off, you know its the real deal.

    EDIT:

figured i would cite sources: RadarTest.com - Best radar detector reviews from the world's most respected authority.

X band is the only edge the V1 has, and that should only concern you if you are in New Jersey...

for laser detection I have the front/rear ZR4s, Laser Veil, and diffusing plate covers (for when there are plates on the car)

La Jolla Audio stocks em, not authorised, but instant gratification if thats what you want. I don't think they mark up that high, as my ZR4s were not heftily marked up.

    Re: Prefered Radar Detector

So I got the 9500, and for some reason it messes with my bimmers gps. The GPS thinks I'm on a different street, like 2 streets over. Put my 8500 back in and it works fine.

9500 is in my truck now though

But an FYI for those with nav. Not sure if it just pertains to the built in Nav though, I don't have a portable to try it on.
